Johannes Dewilde
Johannes is a passionate choral conductor, musician, and teacher, based in Ghent, Belgium. He received his professional training at several conservatories in Flanders and holds two master's degrees (choral conducting and music theory-counterpoint) and a bachelor's degree (performing musician, option trumpet/cornet).
As a teacher, he teaches at the Kunstenacademie GO! in Ghent (choir, choral conducting, and MCV (musical cultural education)), the Conservatory of Bruges and the Conservatory of Ghent (KASK). From 2013 towards 2021, he has been associated with the Arteveldehogeschool (University College) as a lecturer in the course 'Bachelor teacher secondary education, musical education'. He also taught at the University of Eastern Finland (Joensuu). As a conductor, in addition to his master's studies with Luc Anthonis and Geert Hendrix, he trained with various teachers, including Dirk Brossé, David Anne, Marc-Michael De Smet, Florian Heyerick, Ludo Claessen, Jan Vuye, Patrick Peire, Louis Buskens (NL), Jard van Nes (NL), Aarne Saluveer (Estonia) and Brady Allred (USA). Both as conductor and as coach he leaded several renowned (semi-)professional choirs and ensembles. He works as a choir coach, jury member for conservatories, festivals (for example EMJ) and competitions, and is also engaged as a lecturer for various conducting courses. He is currently chief conductor of the youth choir Panta Rhei, the Brussels Young Adults Choir (BYAC) and the (inter)nationally awarded choirs Amaranthe and vocal ensemble SAEVUS. He is guestconductor of the Ghent Singers, a professional ensemble, based in Ghent. He has conducted concerts at home and abroad (including Spain, Italy, the Netherlands, France, Finland, etc.). Recently, in November 2021, he conducted at the opening ceremony of the World Choir Games in. He also won personal prizes as a conductor. In Musica Eterna Rome Johannes received the conductor's prize for outstanding achievements. In CantaRode Kerkrade he won the prize for the best conductor.
